Our professional pressure washing process
1. Pre-treatment for oil and contaminants
We’ll carry out a detailed inspection of the driveway to identify the type and severity of any oil stains, grease marks, and other ingrained contaminants.
2. Application of degreaser/stain remover
If required, a professional-grade degreaser and/or specialised stain remover will be applied to all identified oil and contaminants. This solution will be allowed to dwell for an adequate period to break down and lift the contaminants effectively.
3. Professional pressure washing
The entire surface will be meticulously cleaned using a high-powered, commercial-grade pressure washer. We’ll utilise a rotary surface cleaner or hand held lance to ensure effective removal of ingrained dirt, grime, moss, algae, and loose debris.
The driveway will be thoroughly rinsed to remove all dislodged dirt and debris, leaving a clean surface ready for any post-treatment.
4. Post-wash treatment for organic growth (Softwashing)
Where required, following the primary pressure wash, any remaining stubborn organic growth, including algae, moss, and lichen (black spots) will be treated with a dedicated, industrial grade cleaning solution (this process is often called softwashing). This solution is designed to break down and remove these deeply ingrained organic growths and enhance the surface appearance of the area being cleaned. Whilst the cleaning solution used is not a direct weed killer, for driveways constructed of block paving or similar materials, softwashing can reduce the growth of organic matter, making it less likely for weeds to reappear quickly.
5. Re-sanding
If the surface being cleaned if constructed of block paving the driveway will be allowed to dry completely.
Once fully dry, high-quality, kiln-dried jointing sand will be uniformly spread over the entire block paved area.
The sand will be meticulously brushed into all the joints between the blocks using a soft broom, ensuring every joint is completely filled. This process stabilises the blocks, prevents movement, and helps inhibit weed growth. For heavily trafficked areas or if the existing sand was significantly displaced, a vibratory plate compactor (with a protective mat) may be used to further settle the sand into the joints, ensuring optimal stability. This will be discussed and agreed upon prior to commencement if deemed necessary.
A final sweep will remove any excess sand from the surface, leaving a perfectly finished driveway.
6. Final rinse and tidy-up
Pressure washing inevitably creates splatter and overspray. It’s common for pressure washing to create some splatter on windows, doors, garages, walls, fences, or even nearby plants.
We’ll finish the job by rinsing affected surfaces with a low-pressure hose to remove any mud or dirt splatter and finish by cleaning windows, doors, facias etc. (Including those of any adjoining properties as needed).
We’ll also clean pavements and runoff areas leaving everything neat and tidy.
